About

How do you teach students the nuances of portfolio management? How can you teach them about the impact of market fluctuations on a $1 billion dollar portfolio? Created by Marshall E. Blume, the Howard Butcher III Professor of Financial Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, OTIS offers invaluable practice for students learning about investments. OTIS is packed with features to enhance the instructor's syllabus, and introduce students to the competitive world of investing.

What is OTIS?

OTIS is a multifaceted trading simulation platform used to apply the concepts of investments and portfolio management.

Created to be a complement to strategies taught in portfolio management for Wharton MBA students, OTIS is the foremost experiential training platform for real-world market and portfolio teaching.

Instructors

OTIS provides a free interface for instructors to manage all aspects of their class. Instructors are class administrators who use a specialized dashboard to create classes, manage existing ones, and view a variety of useful reports.

OTIS in Action

Powered by the OTIS platform, the annual Knowledge@Wharton High School Investment Competition is designed to teach finance, teamwork, strategy-building and communication to students around the world. In the 2018 spring competition, 300 high school teams used OTIS to manage their proprietary stock portfolios. The competition culminated in an 18-team finale held at the Wharton School, with over 100 students from more than 10 countries traveling to Philadelphia to present their unique investment strategies to a distinguished panel of judges.

Raad Jaasim
McGill University

Professor of Finance

OTIS has many benefits and features reflecting current financial market trading and tools: international stock markets securities, ability to trade futures, options and option on future, among others. This makes the program up to date and reflecting class room teaching topics. I have used the OTIS program for the last 15 years - many students love this OTIS experience as part of their education and help them to enter the professional life with market exposure.

Marlon Andrus, Professor
Salt Lake Community College

Finance and Economics Department

OTIS is by far the best teaching and learning tool that I have used in my 33 years of teaching. Students love it and continue to talk about it months after the class is finished.

I can't imagine teaching Investments without using OTIS.

Carla Holloway
Milwaukee Area Technical College

A.A.S. Degree Program Coordinator

As a former Financial Advisor I really enjoy utilizing the software for the Investment Principles course.

I have been incorporating the simulation for over five years now.
